After illustrating the initial concept in ink on paper, I fully rendered a portrait of Castor, my very distinguished pet rabbit, using Procreate.

Portrait of Castor, a very distinguished rabbit. Rendered using Procreate.
Played around with the initial idea of animal portraits by illustrating my pet rabbit using ink and Copic markers.
This drawing started off as a very casual pen doodle during a meeting, but I eventually got the ball rolling as more context was added. After sketching out the scene I wanted, I began to shade by cross hatching with the pen.
I was mainly focused on preventing the overall image from seeming too busy and crowded despite having a bunch of flowers surrounding the girl. The importance of the contrast was highlighted when trying to create a sense of depth.

To exercise illustrating in a bolder style, I used color pencils because I felt the most comfortable with them at the time. The image started off as just a rose that was made for a friend, but I wanted to fill up the rest of the page.

Colored Pencils
Great for a sticker pack, I think :) (Update: They are! I printed a couple sheets to see how they’d turn out and they looked awesome!)
I was in a pretty happy mood when the idea of this drawing popped in my head. This was right around when I started to experiment with ballpoint pen illustration more. I found that I really appreciated how it was making me move out of my comfort zone. I tend to use very light colors that may seem washed out, but I like how the ink adds the intensity that I’ve been looking for!
